Choosing the right Cruise line can be overwhelming. Not all cruises are created equal! It's important to be aware of your preferences when selecting the right brand; traveling with kids? Looking for luxury? Are you a foodie? Every cruise line offers something different, which is why I'm sharing my honest feedback about all of the cruise lines I've personally experienced/booked.
Carnival Cruise Line is often described as a fun-focused, budget-friendly cruise brand that caters to a wide range of travelers, especially families, couples, and groups of friends.
Pros: Affordable, great for families or travelers just looking to have a good time without breaking the bank
Cons: Ships are smaller and most are on the older side
The Margaritaville at Sea Islander is a vibrant, family-friendly cruise ship that brings the laid-back, tropical vibe of the Margaritaville brand to the open ocean. Launched in June 2024, it serves as the flagship vessel for Margaritaville at Sea, offering a blend of relaxation, entertainment, and island-inspired experiences.
Pros: Newer ship with updated amenities. Best prices in the industry.
Cons: This cruise line does not offer a guest app
MSC Cruises offers a cosmopolitan, stylish cruise experience that emphasizes elegant design, global itineraries, and affordability, especially in Europe. The vibe is generally more refined and international, with a mix of passengers from Europe, South America, North America, and Asia.
Pros: Cost-effective, several new/updated ships
Cons: Mixed reviews on the food and drinks
Norwegian offers a laid-back, resort-style cruise experience that stands out for its no-fixed-schedule dining, vibrant onboard entertainment, and newer ships packed with activities. It's especially appealing to those who want to cruise on their own terms without the rigid formality seen on some other lines.
Pros: Norwegian is known for having some of the best food in the industry
Cons: Most ships are smaller, but they are well designed with plenty of entertainment/dining options
Royal Caribbean delivers a big, bold cruise experience with some of the largest and most feature-rich ships afloat, including the record-breaking Icon of the Seas and Wonder of the Seas. It's a go-to line for those looking for action, variety, and state-of-the-art amenities, without going full luxury.
Pros: The world's biggest ships with tons of activities for all ages
Cons: RC tends to be on the pricer side
Princess Cruises is a premium cruise line known for its elegant, relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, and destination-focused itineraries offering a more refined experience than mainstream lines. The vibe is classy, quiet, and comfortable, making it ideal for couples, retirees, and travelers seeking cultural enrichment and serenity over splashy entertainment.
Pros: Amazing food, wristband key fobs, app dining orders
Cons: While family friendly, it's not the best option for families.
Virgin Voyages is a disruptor in the cruise industry—designed for adults who don’t like the idea of cruising. With no buffets, no kids, and no formal dress codes, the experience feels more like a boutique resort at sea than a traditional cruise.
Pros: Elevated dining, solo travelers rates, adults only, flexible drink package (bar tab)
